Summary
Niantic's anti-bot measures advanced in a promising and aggressive move mid-day Saturday May 20[sup]th,[/sup] 2017.
While information about these counter-cheat measures is limited, the following is apparent:
Overall, this will not 'end' botting, but is another great step forward that makes life more difficult for botters, even if just for the short term, but may have long-term implications for Niantic's strategy against illicit accounts.
Impact
Large amounts of bot accounts (employed by 3rd party tools to illicitly access Niantic's servers for purposes such as 'scanning' wild spawns) were flagged and, once flagged, ceased seeing certain Pokemon spawns at certain spawnpoints that legitimate accounts could still encounter.
It is currently believed that many accounts were flagged for attempting to use an out-of-date API, but this is not the only set of circumstances that is identifying a bot account to Niantic. Even un-flagged bot accounts freshly purchased from black market vendors are currently being flagged independent of API-related issues.
It is not currently known what botting behavior tips off Niantic's anti-bot system that an account is illegitimate.
Kurzfassung auf Deutsch:
Seit 20.
usw usw. siehe Originalartikel (Link oben)

Niantic's anti-bot measures advanced in a promising and aggressive move mid-day Saturday May 20[sup]th,[/sup] 2017.
While information about these counter-cheat measures is limited, the following is apparent:
- Accounts Niantic identifies as ToS-violating appear to be 'flagged'
- Flagged accounts are unable to encounter 'rare' Pokemon, and see only common species
Overall, this will not 'end' botting, but is another great step forward that makes life more difficult for botters, even if just for the short term, but may have long-term implications for Niantic's strategy against illicit accounts.
